As you may have noticed if you follow the blog, Anne and I have both been to New York in the past few months. I had been lucky enough to go there last year as well and came back determined to go back whenever possible… It is such an energetic city that it is addictive!
This time, Florent and I weren’t as touristy as the last time and spent a lot of time walking around discovering new neighbourhoods, falling in love with the Lower East Side. It was also the occasion to meet the courageous people who make up Occupy Wall Street, eat far too many cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery and spend long hours in the gigantic Nike Store.
It was a special time in New York, as we got there two days before Halloween and were therefore able to take part in the Village Halloween Parade with thousands of crazy New Yorkers all in costume!
A few days after that, it was time for the famous New York Marathon. One of the ‘major’ races, and a must-see for all those passionate about running and marathons. There was a special kind of electricity in the city, with racers from all over the world coming together in the City That Never Sleeps… Sadly, I wasn’t able to participate as we had to leave the day before, but we were able to run the New York Dash to the Finish Line, a 5 km race that takes place the day before and brings together marathon runners and all those who wish to participate in a fun run before the big day. The race starts at the United Nations and goes through the city’s streets, passing by Grand Central Station and 6th Avenue, to finish on the Marathon finish line, at the heart of Central Park. The race is also for a good cause, as the inscription fee goes towards the conservation of the beautiful gardens of Central Park.
Basically a dream holiday with, once again, one wish: to go back as soon as possible! Maybe in 2012 to run the Marathon this time?
